Hopetoun House

Hopetoun House is one of Edinburgh’s most beautiful sights. Built between 1699 and 1701 and extended in 1721, Hopetoun House is the traditional residence of the Earl of Hopetoun, with the present Lord Hopetoun still living there today. A beautiful stately home, the House is adorned throughout with stunning art collections, and is set in some of Scotland’s most beautiful grounds, with nature trails and and scenic walks all around. Open to the public between Easter and the end of September, Hopetoun House is a must-see attraction in Edinburgh, both from a historical point of view and also architecturally. After exploring the house’s ornate exteriors, designed to reflect the Georgian Era, head outside and enjoy magnificent views over the North Deer Park. The House is host to various events throughout the year, from fireworks nights to antique fairs. Visitors will want to drop by the Farm Shop while there, which sells a range of fresh Scottish ingredients including game, breads and cheeses.

We visited the Hopetoun House at night to see Jane Eyre. What a wonderful setting for an outdoor show! We also took time the next day to visit the House. Beautiful home and the staff was welcoming and provided information on every room. We stayed at the Parkhead House so we also were able to enjoy the grounds around the Hopetoun House - highly recommend!
